Our Carbon Balanced flight calculations now take into account radiative forcing*. Defra notes that, whilst the science is uncertain, total radiative forcing of aviation has been estimated to be 1.9-4 times that of CO2 alone. For the time being, a factor of 1.9 will be used in our calculations.

* This takes into account the effects aviation has on climate change beyond just CO2 emissions, such as the formation of nitrous oxide, particle emissions, contrails and enhanced cirrus cloud.
