carbon balanced projects

The World Land Trust believes that carbon offsetting and conservation go hand-in-hand. These projects therefore combine reduction of atmospheric carbon while addressing urgent global threats, including the preservation of endangered species, by providing secure habitats. Current projects are concentrated in Latin America but the Trust’s portfolio is expanding throughout the tropics where regeneration is fast – with the capacity to absorb CO2 in a time-frame that will reduce the current impact of global warming. They include both reforestation of cleared land and ‘avoided deforestation’ – i.e. preventing release of emissions by cutting down standing forest.
